On August 11, just hours before the release of her new album Traumazine, Megan Thee Stallion publicly addressed the issue of her music being leaked on her Twitter account. The leak included “her cover art, parts of her tracklist, and even snippets of her unreleased songs,” as Megan wrote in her tweet.

She continued: “WE ALL know who the only people with access to all these PRIVATE links are.” The rapper concluded the message by stating that she “might as well… lol” and release Traumazine at midnight Eastern Time the next day. Now, Megan’s lawyers are trying to obtain documents from Warner Music Group (WMG) that might reveal who leaked Traumazine, according to a report by Billboard.

Megan’s attorneys filed documents in a Houston court on Monday (August 22), informing the judge that WMG “is one of the few companies that received a copy of Traumazine before its official release,” according to documents reviewed by Billboard. (WMG owns Megan’s distributor, 300 Entertainment.)

The filing added that Megan “is not alleging at this time that WMG intentionally released her album, but believes that obtaining documents and communications from WMG regarding Traumazine and its release will help uncover who improperly leaked her artwork.” Megan also “wishes to identify everyone who had access to Traumazine through WMG.” Additionally, Megan is requesting the judge to compel internet service providers Cablevision and Datacamp to disclose information related to the IP addresses that leaked Traumazine.

Megan’s request comes amid an ongoing lawsuit against her record label, 1501 Certified Entertainment. Although she initially sued the label in 2020, the most recent complaint—filed in February—alleges that 1501 is refusing to allow her to fulfill the terms of her contract, and she is seeking a judgment that her release Something for Thee Hotties meets the legal definition of an “album.”

In March, 1501 countered, claiming that Megan breached her contract and that Something for Thee Hotties does not meet the requirements of an album. The label is seeking a court declaration that the record is not an album, monetary damages for breach of contract, as well as attorney fees and costs.

Megan first sued 1501 in 2020 to terminate her contract. The lawsuit came after Megan claimed the label was preventing her from releasing new music. The allegations were first made during an Instagram Live session, in which Megan stated she did not understand what was in her contract when she first signed with the label. She also claimed that 1501 would not let her renegotiate the contract.

Earlier this week, Megan filed an additional complaint in her latest dispute with 1501, as recently reported by Billboard. The amended complaint suggests that 1501 played a role in the Traumazine leak. The leak, as the filing indicates, “occurred just days after” Megan sent it to 1501. “Two subsequent leaks” followed. The complaint also alleges that Megan “had no choice” but to release Traumazine early because the label did not support her investigation into the leak. The amended filing also includes a request for $1 million in damages for allegedly unpaid royalties.
